This young lady sits on a green bench holding a white bunny. Some books have called her pet a little kitten.  She wears a purple dress with a white collar; her long blonde hair is worn loosely down her back.  Acquired in 1972, she is in very good condition.  The backstamp is the Burslem earthenware 1932-present and the words Bone China [1932-1959] appear below. The initials TH (?) appear along with 1788.

This Alice figure from Lewis Carroll’s book is seated reading a book which is opened to the off times quoted poem that begins with “ The time has come” the Walrus said” and the opposite page is the drawing of the dormouse [a slumber mouse].  She is wearing a short sleeve blue dress with a white collar. Her blonde hair is held back with a white headband. She has red-brown shoes.

She was acquired in 1972 and is very good condition. The backstamp is the Burslem earthenware 1932-present and the words Bone China [1932-1959] appear below. The initials LH and the mark ‘ over the n in Made in  England.

This figure was one of Marguerite’s favorites.  The elegant lady is seated a brown chair obviously waiting (probably for her husband).  She is wearing a stylish gown of green with a ruffled hem, shoulder length sleeves and collar.  The yellow wrap is draped over her shoulders. She has a matching green hat topped by blue ribbons and a yellow necklace around her neck. Her parasol is light blue matching her hat.  She was acquired in 1971 and is in excellent condition. Her back-stamp is marked Ascot and has the 1932-1959 Bone China and the Burslem stamp. The number 58 is handwritten to the right of the Royal Doulton mark.

Autumn Breezes                        HN 1911

The fall winds are blowing and her hat is threatening to blow away and she hangs on to it with her left hand, her blonde curls in place. Her skirt is pink with blue shadows and her bodice and jacket are green and trimmed in blue. The hat is black with a large feather and a broad ribbon of cranberry ending in a bow under her chin. Her gloves and the inner liner of the hat are also green.  Her muff is white [ermine?]. A tiny slip of her white petticoat and one blue shoe are showing.  The model was based on a calendar design by Stanislaus  Longley. 

She was acquired in 1972 and is in excellent condition. Her back-stamp is marked “Autumn Breezes” and has the 1932-1959 Bone China and the Burslem stamp, Ra No 835666, handwritten HN 1911   30, and x.

She is holding to her bonnet so her curls don’t get a weary.

Her short-sleeved gown is green shaded to pink with a red trim at the waist and the sleeves. Her hat and bow on her dress are violet; the bow is her hat is red as is the feather. Her parasol is red with a blue-stripped handle. Her back-stamp is marked “Barbie” and has the 1932-1959 Bone China and the Burslem stamp.  She was acquired in 1972, but had been in another antique dealer personal collection and is in very good condition.

The Ballerina                             HN 2116

She dances on her toes in red ballet shoes perhaps performing a dance from Moira Shearer “ The Red Shoes”. She wears a dress of light lavender shaded to white, off the shoulder gown that is simply decorated with violet roses and light blue ribbons. A red ribbon encircles her waist. Her hair is held back in a bun with a wreath of lavender flowers and leaves.

Her backstamp is marked The Ballerina and has the 1932-1959 Bone China and the Burslem stamp. The initials of DM and y appear on the bottom.

ROYAL DOULTON
Biddy-Penny-Farthing            HN 1843

There are separate models of this character. Both have the same HN number.  This one is the slightly taller of the two but there are other differences.

The character is an older woman dressed in a very pale gray skirt with a white apron. She is wearing a light lavender blouse with orange print and a dark green shawl with light green stripe. The fringe is solid violet fringe.  Her blouse shows a gap in the middle and is unbuttoned.

A black cap is covering her grey hair and is tied under her chin in a bow. Her hat supports a cranberry feather. Her head is almost upright in position in contrast to the former figure.

In her right hand she carries a bouquet of gold and red flowers. Her left hand has a bunch of 11 multicolor balloons. The color of the balloons is different; the yellow balloons are more gold in color, red ones are red but are purple in the former model and in different positions.

Her arm is through the handle of the wicker basket carrying the yellow and red flowers, but her flowers are more gold and orange. She has two feet showing.

There are separate models of this character. Both have the same HN number. The backstamp is one that is associated with Burslem ~ 1929-1931 and has “BiddyPennyfarthing”  HN 1843  and the number 15 handwritten and a small green 0 printed.  The figure was acquired in 1972 and is an excellent condition.

The character is an older woman dressed in a gray skirt with a white apron. Blithe Morning               HN 2065

It seems she wants the wind to blow through her hair as she has removed her hat and holds in her right hand, it is light blue with a black ribbon and bow.

Her left hand is holding her hair that has a blue bow holding it place.  Her skirt is shaded red and her jacket and blouse are also a deeper red with white trim at the collar, cuffs and waist. The wind is blowing her multicolor shawl over her left shoulder (blue, pink, green, yellow colors). One blue shoe is seen. She is enjoying the brisk breeze, is blithe (carefree) and happy.

The back-stamp is one that is associated with Burslem ~ 1932-1959 and bone china stamped. “Blithe Morning”  , 4 RaN0 numbers, 1803 appears to be impressed  and the number # 42065  ND hand printed in black ink.  A right hand D is colored in red (handwritten). She was acquired in 1972 and is very good condition.

Those silly sheep! They can’t be far away and her expression is quite calm (her gaze is straight ahead but later versions have her look to the right). Her dress is pink with a rose overcoat covered with blue and yellow flowers and ruffled white sleeves trimmed in green.

Her bonnet is light green with the ties hanging down, left one in front and the right one in back. Her shepherd’s hook is green and she carries it in both hands. She has two light green shoes. The backstamp is one that is associated with Burslem ~ 1932-1959 and has “Bo-Peep” . Handwritten is LyO in green; a small dot on the lion’s back; small black dot after England; a red dot lower down and another small red dot between bone and china.

This young lady is dressed in a pale blue gown with white flower/red centers on the skirt. The off of shoulder neckline is done in white with red ribbons. In her right hand she holds a small bouquet of pink flowers that match two roses in her hair. A small cap of blue is atop her hair that is captured off her neck in a bun of curls. Her underskirt is white and one shoe is showing.

Back-stamp  imprinted “10”;  handwritten “CF”; The Bridesmaid HN 2196 Doulton & Co Limited ; 4 RdNo numbers, the Burslem earthenware pottery, Bone China.

She was acquired in 1972 and is very good condition.

Perhaps you remember receiving a small white bunny as a child or you gave one to a child.  This bunny is very dear to this young lady and she holds it tenderly to her breast. She is dressed on a turquoise dress with a pink blouse. Her hat is also turquoise with the pink bow tied under her chin.  She has a single pink shoe peeking out from her gown.

The back-stamp shows a Burslem earthenware pottery with a bone china added underneath (1932-1959). Her HN 2214 number and 4 RdNo marks are present.  A 50 mark is also present together with a small dot over the lion’s back and a F and 8 handwritten. The stamp appears to be 16.

Carpet Seller                             HN 1464A

The vendor wants you to purchase his rug and it is a fine one, green with a multicolor (yellow, green, red, black, orange) block border. He is dressed in a robe of light green and has a shawl of dark green with vague stripes of yellow, light green, and blue with a fringe. His shoes are red and featured turned toes. The base is black.

The figure was acquired in 1972 and is in very good condition.  His backstamp is the Burlem earthenware is 1932 but doesn’t contain “Bone China” or English Fine Bone China.  Underneath the stamp he is labeled “Carpet Seller” and H.N. 1464. A small print “04” appears in black. The number is difficult in read and begins 0? ?.  There are several individual marks handwritten;  DH;  x;  k. ; and R.

This pretty lady is seated on a bench (blue) demurely waiting.  Her tiered gown is shaded from medium to light blue with shades of pink. The top is draped to cover her shoulders.  Around her face, pretty curls are protected from the breeze by her bonnet; a beautiful of pink with ruffles about the face, red/pink flowers and a wide blue ribbon and long ties extended to her waist and tied a loose knot. The hat has a decoration in deeper pink. Her hands are folded into her lap holding a small bouquet of roses (yellow and red). 

The backstamped shows a Burslem earthenware pottery with a bone china added underneath (1932-1959) and cz hand-written. The stamp appears to be 11. She was acquired in1972 and she is in very good condition.

She is dressed on an off-the-shoulder red over-gown with a green under-gown with a ruffles hemline. Her blonde hair is in curls and supports a stylish green hat trimmed with bows and red decorations. In her right hand she is holding a bouquet of violet flowers and yellow roses. One red shoe peeks out beneath her gown.

She was acquired in 1972 and is in excellent condition. The backstamped shows a Burslem earthenware pottery without a bone china added underneath (1932-1959). Her HN 1639 number is hand-written as is the comment “Potted by Doulton and Co.” Dainty May is written by hand and also “Dainty May” stamp and one RdNo mark are present.  A $mark is also present and the number 8 (1937?).

This little boy in his white nightshirt caught Queen Mary’s eye and she said “Isn’t he a darling!”. The name stuck.

The figure was acquired in 1972 from Ireland. The back-stamped shows a Burslem earthenware pottery with a bone china added underneath (1932-1959). His HN 1985 number, his name,  Darling, COPR 1945 and Doulton & Co Limited.

She is most pleased to meet you and extends a deep curtsey to you.  She wears a deep blue short-sleeved gown that is shaded to light blue and ends in a pink ruffle. Deep pink ruffles adorn the sleeves. The gown features white daisies all over it. Her blonde hair is styled in a short bob.

She was acquired in 1972 and she is in excellent condition.

The backstamp shows a Burslem earthenware pottery without a bone china added underneath (1932-1959). Her HN 1575 number is hand-written as is the comment “Potted by Doulton & Co.  The stamp mark is 05.  To the right there is a second mark I.    To the right of the back-stamp is the numerical 6, (1933)? This might meant she was made in the first year of production.  A gold C is to the left.

Forty Winks                              HN 1974

She is not asleep….just taking “Forty Winks”. The cat knows the difference!

She is sitting her favorite tan stripped armchair and her glasses have slipped into her lap. She is wearing a long green skirt and green shawl with two black stripes and wine colored fringe.  Her blouse is wine colored too and has black buttons in one (2804). She wears a white apron. Two black shoes peek out from under her skirt. Her favorite cat snuggles to her leg. Her grey hair is covered with a white cap.

This is a case of two “Forty Winks” figures (2804 and 4759 - see mouseover image) being in the collection. One is marked “7” and stamped 8 (2804) and the other is marked II (4759). Both bear the same backstamp a Burslem earthenware pottery without a bone china added underneath (1932-1959). The 2804 figurine bears a handwritten J and the 4759 a handwritten T.

The 4743 bears a back-stamp shows a Burslem earthen-ware pottery with a bone china added underneath (1932-1959). Handwritten is the number 25 and a black mark between bone and china.  ‘Lucy Ann’ appears below bone china.

She has a pale pink overdress shaded to deep blue. Her ribbons are bright blue. Her under-gown is deep blue shaded to pink. She holds several flowers in her gown; 1 orange and 1 yellow roses, 2 blue and 2 yellow flowers.

The 4758 bears a backstamp shows a Burslem earthen-ware pottery without a bone china added underneath (1932-1959). Underneath her right shoe is stamped 742.

Handwritten is the number 25 and a black mark between bone and china.  “Lucy Ann” appears below the seal. Below that RdNo 770315.  Handwritten is HN1502.  Handwritten in gold is VR .

She has more pink tone. Her over-gown is bright pink and she holds 3 red roses together with 3 blue and 3 white flowers. Her under-gown is pink with blue shading. The ribbons are pale blue.
